Announcements for December 16, 2018

From our Lesson - Deep Lasting Conversion to Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ - Elder Quentin L. Cook

Lisa Clawson gave our lesson today and gave us all such a shot in the arm about the many positive things that are waiting for us as we embrace the new curriculum changes the church will implement in January. --

From Elder Cook’s talk --
“World conditions increasingly require deepening individual conversion to and strengthening faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and His Atonement. The Lord has prepared us, line upon line, for the perilous times that we now face. In recent years, the Lord has guided us to address related core concerns, including:

Honoring the Sabbath day and the sacred ordinance of the sacrament has again been emphasized for the last three years.

Under the bishop’s direction, strengthened elders quorums and Relief Societies are focused on the purpose and divinely appointed responsibilities of the Church and helping members make and keep sacred covenants.

Ministering in a higher and holier way is being joyfully adopted.

Beginning with the end in mind, temple covenants and family history service are becoming a purposeful part of the covenant path.

The adjustment announced this morning is yet another example of guidance for the challenges of our day.”

It is exciting to be a part of the church at this time.  There are so many things happening, and Heavenly Father is showing us that he has confidence that we can do these things.  I loved what Lisa said when she said that Heavenly Father is creating an army of “thinkers”.  No longer should we or our children sit back and wait to be told what to think or do.  Following these guidelines will increase our knowledge and power for good, and prepare us for the things that are coming as we move forward on this earth. These are exciting times!

Ministering -
Thank you to all those who attended Ministering Interviews and reported on their Sisters and families.  We are touched at the love and concern you have for each other.

Announcements for December 9, 2018

From our Lesson - Firm and Steadfast in the Faith of Christ - Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Most of us find ourselves at this moment on a continuum between a socially motivated participation in gospel rituals on the one hand and a fully developed, Christlike commitment to the will of God on the other. Somewhere along that continuum, the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ enters into our heart and takes possession of our soul. It may not happen in an instant, but we should all be moving toward that blessed state.

It is challenging but vital to remain firm and steadfast when we find ourselves being refined “in the furnace of affliction,” something that comes soon or late to all of us in mortality. Without God, these dark experiences tend to despondency, despair, and even bitterness. With God, comfort replaces pain, peace replaces turmoil, and hope replaces sorrow. Remaining firm in the faith of Christ will bring His sustaining grace and support. He will convert trial into blessing and, in Isaiah’s words, “give … beauty for ashes.”

Always remember the promise of good things to come, both now and hereafter, for those who are firm and steadfast in the faith of Christ. Remember “eternal life, and the joy of the saints.” “O all ye that are pure in heart, lift up your heads and receive the pleasing word of God, and feast upon his love; for ye may, if your minds are firm, forever.”
