Announcements for December 17, 2017

From our Lesson today - Gordon B. Hinckley #24 and #25

#24 - The Atonement of Jesus Christ: Vast in it’s reach, Intimate in it’s Effects
I bear witness [of] the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. Without it life is meaningless. It is the keystone in the arch of our existence. It affirms that we lived before we were born in mortality. Mortality is but a stepping-stone to a more glorious existence in the future. The sorrow of death is softened with the promise of the Resurrection.

Jesus is the Christ, the foreordained Son of God who condescended to come to earth, who was born in a manger, in a conquered nation among a vassal people, the Son of God, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh, the Firstborn of the Father and the Author of our salvation. He is our Redeemer, our Savior, through whose Atonement eternal life is made possible for all who will walk in obedience to His teachings.

#25 -  Move Forward With Faith
… Faith can become the very wellspring of purposeful living. There is no more compelling motivation to worthwhile endeavor than the knowledge that we are children of God, that God expects us to do something with our lives, and that He will give us help when help is sought. …

… When I discuss faith, I do not mean it in an abstract sense. I mean it as a living, vital force that comes with recognition of God as our Father and Jesus Christ as our Savior. …

… Faith in a Divine Being, in the Almighty, is the great moving power that can change our lives.

Announcements for December 10, 2017

From our Lesson today - Gordon B. Hinckley #23 Blessings of the Holy Temple

I make … a challenge for each of you this day to put your lives in order, to be worthy to go to the house of the Lord and there to partake of the blessings that are peculiarly yours. … Great are the requirements, but greater still are the blessings.

I urge our people everywhere, with all of the persuasiveness of which I am capable, to live worthy to hold a temple recommend, to secure one and regard it as a precious asset, and to make a greater effort to go to the house of the Lord and partake of the spirit and the blessings to be had therein.

Whether you can go [to the temple] frequently or not, qualify for a temple recommend and keep a recommend in your pocket. It will be a reminder to you of what is expected of you as a Latter-day Saint.

Also, we want to make you aware that as a part of the “Light The World” initiative the church has a group of “Give” vending machines set up (as seen in the video for Day 1 of Light the World) in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial building.  The vending machines have various items that you can purchase for someone else.  --If you are planning a visit to temple square, this is a great way for you and your children to see a visual representation of what your donations will give someone in need.  There are things you can purchase for others there in dollar amounts small and large.

Announcements for December 3, 2017

Announcements for December 3, 2017

From our Lesson today -
Sandra Sorensen shared her favorite Christmas story today called “The Cedar Post Christmas”.  It is a reminder that instead of getting caught up in the busy-ness and details of Christmas, and things that really aren’t that important, as we focus our efforts and thoughts on the Savior, our Christmas Season will be blessed. She posed the following question to us as sisters. –“What different, are you going to do this year, to invite the Savior into your home?” We invite you to ponder this question and do something to de-clutter your Christmas so you can better focus on the Savior.

We hope you are participating in the Light The World in 25 Ways in 25 Days initiative.

Light The World

To go along with this, here are a few ideas to share to enhance your efforts.

Throughout history, God has associated certain mighty works with the Sabbath.
