Announcements for January 28, 2018

From our Lesson Today

Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath

Sister Angie Farr taught our lesson today.  One of the things we discussed were ways we could make the Sabbath more meaningful - before, during, and after going to church.  Some ideas shared were -
Before - (meaning Saturday night or Sunday morning) -
-Read Sunday School and Relief Society lessons.
-Listen to past conference talks.
-Listen to uplifting music.
-Set out clothes, including shoes for young children to wear to help avoid last minute stress.
-“Saturday night 10 minute clean up” -- before sending everyone to bed, have a quick 10 minute clean up so things are more in order Sunday morning.
During
-Think about the Savior during the sacrament and about his sacrifice for us.
-Create a small book of pictures of the Savior to look at during the sacrament.
-Read and ponder the words of the sacrament hymn.
After -
-Journal about your week and thoughts and feelings from church services. Express gratitude for blessings you have received.
-Sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy the beauty of the world.
-Ponder ways you can better follow Him throughout the week.
-Read from the scriptures

Next Sunday (February 4th) will be our 2nd First Sunday “Council” meeting.  We appreciate all who attended last month and helped us jump in to this new way of doing first Sundays.  We got a lot of positive feedback, and are looking forward to this month’s meeting.  We are going to try something different (again) and we will be having Relief Society in the back part of the Cultural Hall. Feel free to bring a light blanket along if you want to.  We felt like we needed room for a bigger circle, so as soon as Sunday School is over, please head right in to the Cultural Hall.  We will be starting promptly at 1:10.  A reminder that we will begin our council meeting by asking for some feedback following through from last months goals.  So here’s a reminder of what they were !!!

-Reach out to someone you don't know very well, and make an effort to get to know them better.
-Pick one thing that sits outside of your comfort zone and do it this month.
-If you didn't take the opportunity to comment and give feedback at this month's counsel, we hope you will consider doing so next month.

The topic for our discussion this week will be “What can we do to help loved ones who have left the church, have a desire to return?”

Announcements for January 14, 2018

From our Lesson - Abiding in God and Repairing the Breach - Neill F. Marriot (October Womens Conference Address) https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2017/10/abiding-in-god-and-repairing-the-breach?lang=eng

We are here on this earth to learn and grow, and the most important learning and growing will come from our covenant connection to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. From our faithful relationship with Them come godly knowledge, love, power, and capacity to serve.

Our challenges can pull us off this course of happiness. We can lose our trusting connection to God if trials drive us to distraction instead of sending us to our knees.

When we give our heart to the Father and the Son, we change our world—even if circumstances around us do not change. We draw closer to Heavenly Father and feel His tender acceptance of our efforts to be true disciples of Christ. Our discernment, confidence, and faith increase.

January 7, 2018 Announcements

We had our first 1st Sunday Council Meeting as a Relief Society today.  Erin Foster started our discussion by posing the question "How does the way I live represent my conversion?"  We are so thankful for those of you who shared. We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place, and be surrounded by so many wonderful people.  We might all have different ways of doing things, but our goal is always to do our best.

We discussed many things today and left with a few goals to possibly work on this month.  We invite you to ponder them and decide what will benefit you the most.  It doesn't need to be something big, just something that will stretch you a little.

Some suggestions were -
Reach out to someone you don't know very well.  --We encourage you to invite someone to go with you to the Relief Society Activity this Wednesday.

Pick one thing that sits outside of your comfort zone and do it this month. --Then be willing to report at our counsel next month.

If you didn't take the opportunity to comment and give feedback at this month's counsel, we hope you will consider doing so next month.  We all have so much to share.  Maybe the small thing you add is just what someone else needs to hear.  There is a little quote in the guidelines for our First Sunday Council Meetings that says- “Revelation is scattered among us.”    We know that each sister has valuable things to contribute.  We hope that next month we will have an opportunity to hear from even more of you who might not have shared this month.
